Cocoa, sugar and coffee prices fall as dollar rallies
Updates prices
LONDON, Nov 6 (Reuters) -Cocoa, sugar and coffee futures on ICE all fell on Wednesday, weighed down by a broad-based decline in commodity markets as the dollar rallied sharply following Donald Trump's election as U.S. President.
COCOA
* March New York cocoa CCc2 was 4% lower at $6,675a metric ton at 1447GMT.
* Dealers said an expected partial recovery in Ghana's cocoa production this year should lessen supply concerns, although a below-average crop is still anticipated due to challenges such as illegal gold mining and disease.
* Swiss chocolate maker Barry Callebaut said on Wednesday that global production should also pick up in 2024/25.
* "We see significant improvement in cocoa harvest versus last year, but still not at the 2022/2023 levels," said Peter Feld, CEO of the world's biggest industrial chocolate maker, at a post-earnings presentation.
* March London cocoa LCCc2 fell 1.8% to 5,294pounds a ton.
SUGAR
* March raw sugar SBc1 fell 1.3% to 21.62cents per lb.
* Dealers said the market was weighed by the combination of a strong dollar and good rainfall in Centre-South Brazil which should improve the outlook for the next cane crop.
* December white sugar LSUc1 fell 1% to $550.50 a ton.
COFFEE
* January robusta coffee LRCc2 fell 2.5% to $4,263a ton.
* Dealers said the focus remained on the harvest in top robusta producer Vietnam which should gather pace this month.
* Vietnam exported 1.15 million metric tons of coffee in the first 10 months of this year, down 11.2% from the same period in 2023, government data released on Wednesday showed.
* December arabica coffee KCc1 fell 2% at $2.4505per lb.
